Santana, 32, hit .249, 187 HRs, and 587 RBIs in his 8 seasons with the Tribe. Santana makes $20 million per season and won’t become a free agent again until 2021.
Encarnacion spent the last two seasons DHing for the Indians. He turns 36 in January and makes $20 million per season.
The Indians are also sending corner infield Yandy Diaz to the Rays to complete the trade. Diaz has played 88 games for Cleveland over two seasons.
